The Anonymous Vile Evils T-Shirt Gift

March 11th, 2009 2 comments

As you know by now, I’m a huge fan of Pop Will Eat Itself.  So much so that I’d sell my soul to see them perform live.  Alas, they’ve been disbanded since 1996 (so my soul is safe for now), but they did get back together for their brief Reformation tour back in 2005.  As a slave to their sound I hunted down and purchased the entire soundboard recordings covering this short lived reunion tour.  It even shipped with a nice backstage pass BTW.  Woot!

I have all of PWEI’s CDs and singles, a large collection of LPs and 12″ singles, limited edition releases, and other live recordings.  Their music was part of small collection that saw me through my stint in the Air Force, and continues to get heavy rotation in my digitized collection.  Life, as it were, would not be the same without the Poppies.

As it happens, the remnants of PWEI (Graham Crabb and Adam Mole) are still deep in the trenches and together have been busy in the studio and on tour under the moniker The Vile Evils.  Together they’ve abandoned the industrialized sound forged during their last album while in the tutelage of Trent Reznor, and have fallen back to their more familiar Poppy sound.  With the addition of a slight house vibe they’ve emerged with a fuller sound that old fans would have come to expect from a PWEI release.

And this brings me to the reason for this post.

When I got home from work last night I found a package on the kitchen counter.  I asked Karin what it was, and she said that it was addressed to me from the UK.  Odd….I don’t recall ordering anything recently.  Opening it up I found a Vile Evils T-Shirt.  Wow!  I’m not sure how this package found its way to my home, but I’m more than grateful to whomever sent it to me.  I’ve written before about my love for Pop Will Eat Itself (even going so far as to mentioning them in my about page), but I never guessed somebody would take the time to make me scream like a fanboy.

I’m not sure how you got my address, but thank you for sending this shirt my way.

I have a fantasy that a member of PWEI or the Vile Evils placed this shirt into a package, labeled it, and dropped it off at the local post.  But that can’t be….can it?  Whoever it was they’ve got some serious good karma headed their way.  My heartfelt thanks go out to you!

UPDATE 3.13.09:  The mystery has been solved.  It appears that regular reader nequiem nonsuch voluntarily, and of his own free will, donated this t-shirt to the Terrible Analogies cause.  I’d like to quickly thank you again for this amazing gift!  You are a man among men, a shining light in the dark, and a prince among thieves.

Wow...just...wow! Thanks for sending this shirt my way!

It's even addressed to HermanTurnip (or close enough :-) )

My copy of the book detailing the history of The Wonder Stuff, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, and Pop Will Eat Itself. These were the godfathers of the Grebo movement in the UK. Thanks go to Alison for scoring me this during my stint on the official PWEI website in the 90's.
