Sheep Born With Human Face

January 15th, 2010 6 comments

I heard a story on the radio as I was driving home from work last night that a sheep in Turkey gave birth to a lamb with a distinctly human looking face.  Now this I had to see for myself.  Making a mental note of the source website, I pulled the car into the garage, petted and fed the cat, powered up the laptop, and was greeted by this bizarre sight:

Bizarre mutation?  Photoshopped picture?  Or could this be the result of human / animal crossbreeding?

Okay…that last question was a bit of a stretch, but geezy creezy, look at that thing.  I hate to think what sort of abominations would roam this good Earth if human / animal crossbreeding was indeed possible.

If you haven’t seen the movie Up yet, make sure you have a box of tissues by your side when you watch it. Man, why must they tug at our heartstrings like that?  The wife and I were sobbing like an only child who had just lost his puppy.  Cross my heart.

In the spirit of Up, let me present to you a short video entitled Alma:

Mt. Rubidoux, 1920

Clipping from a newspaper, circa 1920:

I find this interesting because Mt. Rubidoux is just a few miles (give or take) from my house.  It’s a place I’ve driven past many, many times.  I always knew that Easter services were popular, but I wasn’t aware how far back this yearly ritual went.  Imagine trying to make your way down this bumpy one-way mountain road in your Model ‘T’ after the sunrise services.

Another interesting thing I discovered while researching this clipping is that Wikipedia has this photo on their Mt. Rubidoux Wiki site.  Comparing the cars in the Wiki photo with this newspaper clipping, it became apparent that, if Wikipedia has their dates correct then my newspaper photo is actually from 1913.

Would anybody out there with an affinity for automobiles be able to pinpoint the date from which this photo was actually taken?  Call me curious…

His Name Is Robert Paulson

January 12th, 2010 1 comment

Playing Fallout 3 this afternoon I found myself knee deep in Super Mutants while trying to track down my scientist father who skipped out on me (thanks, dad) in his relentless pursuit of supplying the war torn landscape with clean drinking water.  Scanning through my Pip-Boy 3000 I noticed this odd contract in my inventory I picked up after being attacked by a band of renegades whilst wandering the vast wastelands:

For the uninitiated, Robert Paulson is the name of a character in Chuck Palahniuk’s novel Fight Club:

And so I, the protagonist of Fallout 3, am named after a charter whose nickname was “Bitch Tits”.  Fantastic.

I’m constantly amazed at how this book (and movie) has permeated into the consciousness of America.  It couldn’t have happened to a finer work of fiction (at this point I’d like to name drop Chuck’s best (IMHO) book, Survivor.  Go read it.  Now.)

If I didn’t take a moment to point out this Fight Club sighting, I’d forever regret it ;-)

Spotted this outside our local grocery store this weekend:

I wonder how many bumpers he goes through each week ;-)
