Controversial Superbowl Ad?

January 29th, 2013 Leave a comment Go to comments

Seems this is the upcoming Superbowl ad that everyone’s getting bunged up over.  Personally, I think certain people are just a bit too high strung and look for anything to complain about.  Come on man, turn that frown the other way around!

Isn’t that the truth… people complain about everything these days. I hate it, but love the car. We used to have a VW … Hmmm wouldn’t mind one again, alongside my Peugeot of course.

I can see both sides – that is the torture of my life
I think it’s funny and probably made with the best of intentions
then again, another’s culture, accent, etc. is precious to a people and they don’t appreciate it being used
might have been taken better if there actually was a single person of that culture in the ad

the East Coast thanks you for the high five :)

Personally, I don’t understand the controversy?!? I love the commercial because I honestly don’t think it’s intended as a way of making fun of Jamaicans at all. I took it as though Jamaicans are happy people (even their accent sounds happy), so that’s why the car company use it.

    I think it’s a great commercial!

It’s cute. Not one of my fav commercials, but not at all because of the accent. People should lighten up.

A friend of mine in high school drove a Peugeot. Awesome car back in the day!

Yeah, I can see your point. But then again, do people get upset when a Brit plays Spiderman or an American takes the lead in the Bolshoi ballet? I think people are very selective in what irks them, and often times it’s to make a political point. But whatever. I just thought the commercial was funny! :o )

Exactly! The guys accent was jovial. No slight was intended. The thing made me smile!

Not the worst commercial in the world. I watched it a few times and left smiling, so it passed my test! :-)

I think that’s really funny. He really has that Jamaican accent down, doesn’t he? I don’t see it as as a slight, anymore than I get my knickers in a twist about the fact that in American movies, an English accent is so often given to the baddie. So what? If it works, why knock it?

Honestly? It just made me feel happy. Love the twist at the end with the boss changing his uptight ways.

Sometimes being offended is more a function of one’s personality than anything else. And sometimes things are clearly offensive, to caring people of all cultures.
