I can’t tell you how happy we are that we have a good looking baby.
When Tyler was born I was allowed to accompany him to the nursery and watch as the nurses performed his initial tests and measurements. Let me tell you, that nursery housed some of the ugliest looking babies. I hate to say that. I really do. It was just an observation, nothing more. I’m not saying that all of the babies were ugly…but a large percentage of them could easily crack a mirror.
Standing there under the florescent lights, breathing in the sterilized nursery air, I looked down at my newborn son, thinking that he was the most beautiful thing that I’ve ever seen in my life.
And I got to wondering if he got his good looks from Karin or me.
Fast forward four months. Karin, Tyler and I are at my parents having dinner when my mother hands me one of my baby photos:
It’s official. Tyler got all of his good looks from his mother. *Sigh*
Happy Friday!
The wife and Tyler took off for Idylwild this morning for a three day mini-vacation. I was looking forward to relaxing at the cabin, taking in a few trail runs, walking around the small town, and having a few beers but life, it seems, had other ideas for me. Ya see, I was supposed to go, but alas it’s patch day this Saturday (guess who gets to patch the entire 1200+ servers farm?), and I’m on call. I feel so lucky…
It’s only Thursday, the wife and baby have only been gone a few hours, and I find myself missing them both quite a bit. It’s not the same here at home without ‘em. I think I’ll try to console myself with an extended reading of The Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes.
Happy Friday?
Note: This is a follow-up to a previous post.
With a rational fear that I might lose my eyesight due to either an injury or an infection, I went to see my doctor on Friday. She immediately referred me to another doctor who specializes in “diseases and surgery of the eye”. Great…that fills me with a sense of dread that I really didn’t need right about now.
So, off of the other side of town I go where, after a couple hours wait the good doctor, sporting a red bow tie and thick coke-bottle glasses, ambled into the waiting room and slowly called my name. ”Mr. Turnip,” he said tugging at his bow tie, “please step this way.” Motioning me though the open door he guided me down a narrow hallway and into a darkened examining room. ”I heard that you’re experiencing light sensitivity, so I’ve turned the lights down for you.”
The doc had me sit in a chair and place my chin on rest. Various examining tools, metal masks of medieval design, were slowly placed in front of my face. Lights were shone into my eyes. The doctor let loose with a sting of hems and haws. Notes were taken. Sterilized pouches were opened and their contents laid out on a stainless steel tray in front of me.
It was then that I was told that I have a “foreign object embedded in my eye, just below the iris.” Concerned, I asked what the next step was going to be. “Well,” the doc said as he tugged at his bow tie, “we’re going to get it out.” It was then that he pulled a needle from one of the sterilized pouches, attached it to a handle of dubious design, then told me to lean back. “I’m going to place a drop of anesthesia on your eye. Please look up for me.”
Ten minutes later I’m “foreign object” free, and walking out of the doctor’s office with a prescription for an antibiotic. I was told that it seemed a chip of paint had pierced my eye, which caused my extreme sensitivity to light and headaches. I’m still unsure where I could have pick up this paint chip.
Let me tell you, the eye is nothing to mess around with. I’m just glad I got to see the doctor when I did, and that he was able to squeeze me in on an emergency basis. All is good now. My eye is mending, and the vision is just about back to 100%.
So…how was your weekend?
Seems I’m having a bit of an eye problem today.
I woke up yesterday with sore eyes. Thinking that I was just tired I shrugged it off and drove into work, turned on my laptop, and proceeded to catch up on my e-mail when my right eye really began to hurt. I walked to the restroom to check out my eye in the mirror. Wish I hadn’t done that.
In my eye at the edge of my pupil was a small white speck. Did I somehow manage to rub something into my eye, or does this speck have a more natural and perhaps more sinister origin? Whatever it was it was causing me quite a bit of discomfort.
As the afternoon wore my right eye became red and slightly swollen. My left eye began to follow suit. By 1pm both of my eyes had become extremely sensitive to light, so much so that I found it extremely difficult to find my way to my car. I managed to drive home, but only just barely.
Will be seeing my doctor tomorrow. I’m not sure what’s going on with me. I’m hoping it’s temporary and benign. We shall see.
