Stone Pattern

June 2nd, 2010 7 comments

This past weekend I did something I’ve never done before; I ran my Mt. Woodson route backwards. No, I didn’t physically run backwards on it, but rather I started from the end and worked my way to the beginning.

Anyway, because I was attacking Woodson from the Lake Poway direction I noticed this interesting rock on the downhill side as I descended Woodson:

I found the pattern of deconstruction interesting.  While not quite a geometric pattern, it made me think of the Giant’s Causeway and Skaftafell National Park.  I guess this goes to prove that nature loves a straight line (and ninety degree angles as well).

Artificial Limbs And The Gym

May 26th, 2010 5 comments

I got home from work surprisingly early yesterday.  So early in fact that I thought that I’d swing by the local gym to squeeze in a quick workout.  Bad idea.

Seems that everyone tries to fit in a quick gym session after work.  There wasn’t a parking spot in sight.  Cars were slowly trawling the lot looking for a free parking stall.  People were even parking in the lower lot reserved for a Walgreens, a pet supply store, and a funky business that sells what looks like artificial limbs and custom auto parts.  I wish I could tell you more about this particular store, but their “closed” sign is always up and the lights are always off.  If I didn’t know any better I’d think that this particular establishment was a front for some other nefarious, underhanded business we’re not meant to know about, and nor should we ask.

I wonder if gyms have a limit to the amount of memberships they’re allowed to sell, or do they continue to sell memberships even though it’s painfully evident that they simply can not accommodate everyone?

Perhaps I’m just bitter that Lost has run its course and I’m just looking for any outlet to use as an excuse to whine and moan?  Could I be in mourning for my favorite show?  Just…just ignore me for today until I get my head straight.

Nice Shootin’ There, Tex

Spotted this on the front page of cnn.com:

Umm….one question: What exactly is this gun-wielding madman aiming at?  Please, please, please tell me the target is wearing bulletproof boxers.

No Babies?

While putting the nursery together we noticed this icon printed on a vacuum seal bag:

So…what you’re telling me is that I shouldn’t put baby in the vacuum bag?  Come on…the next thing you’ll be telling me is that I shouldn’t put my hand in a running garbage disposal, jump out of a moving car, or stare at the sun for extended periods of time.  Why, that would be crazy talk.

Sheep Born With Human Face

January 15th, 2010 6 comments

I heard a story on the radio as I was driving home from work last night that a sheep in Turkey gave birth to a lamb with a distinctly human looking face.  Now this I had to see for myself.  Making a mental note of the source website, I pulled the car into the garage, petted and fed the cat, powered up the laptop, and was greeted by this bizarre sight:

Bizarre mutation?  Photoshopped picture?  Or could this be the result of human / animal crossbreeding?

Okay…that last question was a bit of a stretch, but geezy creezy, look at that thing.  I hate to think what sort of abominations would roam this good Earth if human / animal crossbreeding was indeed possible.
